A Mullingar man was arrested because Gardaí acted to protect him, a special sitting of Mullingar District Court recently heard.
Mr John Quinn, solicitor, made the comment about his client, Colm Donoghue, 2 O’Connell Terrace, who was arrested at Grange at 11.10pm on August 22 2008.
He was highly intoxicated and a danger to himself and others. Mr Donoghue has a number of previous convictions for public order offences and was given an 11 month sentence for attempted robbery in 2007.
Judge Eamon O’Brien fined him €100.
