Garrycastle GAA under-8 girls squad enjoyed a great evening of football in recent times as they hosted South Roscommon neighbouring club Clann na nGael in Garrycastle.
The club had over 26 girls involved and were in a position to field three teams. Despite it being their first outing of the season, the quality of football was excellent with much fun and game time had by all.
Under 16 Girls
It was a very good week for the Under 16 girls with both teams in league action. The Red team travelled to play Coralstown-Kinnegad in a Division One clash and after a slow start, Garrycastle gradually got into the game, their ability to work goals putting them into a comfortable but slightly flattering lead at half time.
A young, but talented, Coralstown-Kinnegad side visibly tired in a second half where Garrycastle dominated possession and territory and they eased to a good win in the end. Plenty of solid performances on the winning side but Jane Byrne, Orla Turner and Roisin Ni Chluaid all deserve mention for their second half displays.
It was the turn of the Green squad for a Division 5 clash on a sweltering Saturday afternoon as they made the long trek to Clonmellon to play St Paul’s Delvin. With a lot of players unavailable for a variety of reasons, Garrycastle travelled with only 13 players but each of the girls that travelled put in a huge shift over the course of the game to emerge deserving winners on a scoreline of 7-3 to 2-10. Lara Ellen Keena scored four well taken goals and she was followed closely in the scoring stakes by Olivia Collins (3-2 ) with the last point coming from Isabella Hogan. On a day where every player emerged with credit, Doireann Keena and Trudy Quilty put in stand out performances while Hannah Ganly worked tirelessly in midfield. Drew Dunphy was excellent in her first game at this age group.
DIY Classes

Nursery
The nursery welcomed the Athlone Fire Brigade on Sunday morning, making it a truly memorable day for both parents and kids alike. Special thanks to the firefighters who gave up their time to ensure a wonderful experience for each child.
