Twice winner of the Meteor award in the best folk/trad category, John Spillane has toured the country and the world spreading joy with a mix of melodic tunes, entertaining stories, and poetic lyrics.
Last year brought us two successful albums of his, My Dark Rosaleen and the Island of Dreams, and Irish Songs we Learned at School, which has now gone double platinum in Ireland alone!
Now fresh from the success of that album, John Spillane brings us So Far So Good, Like. A best of album, released in May, that compiles some of his greatest works from the memorable anthem ‘Dunnes Stores Girl’ to songs from The Gaelic Hit Factory and Irish Songs we Learned at School. A fantastic mix of songs, including two new tracks, ‘Passage West’ and ‘Lovers Leap’, as well as a beautiful reworking of ‘Dance Of The Cherry Trees’.
With the year 2009 turning out to be successful year for the native Cork man, including a headline gig at the Marquee in Cork with fellow Corkonian Mick Flannery, the possibilities are endless.
Passionfruit Theatre presents John Spillane in the Palace Loft this Friday June 26 at 8.30pm, with support from Emer Dunne.
