Under 12 Boys Commence League Campaign

It was a special occasion at the weekend as the club’s under-12s started their league campaign. For the first time since 1993, Garrycastle are fielding two teams at this age grade showing the great work that has been placed on the club’s underage development in recent years.

The Garrycastle Green team lined up minus many regulars against a strong Delvin side. Despite being much smaller in stature they put in a terrific performance losing out by a few scores.

Green team - Cian Miller, Tiernan Sweeney, Paul Sleator , Lorcan Farrell, Tomás Galvin, Paul Fallon, Ollie Whelton, Josh Byrne, Daniel Pugh, Lucas Keogh, Kayden McCormack, Kai McCormack.

Meanwhile, the club’s Red team made their way to Kinnegad to face the fancied home team. Despite trailing by 11 points midway into the second half the players put in a huge fightback scoring 2-04 without reply. However, the final whistle came just too early with a one point loss in the end.

Red team - Tiernan Frawley, James Dillon, Adam Wojcik, Harry Killion, Yod Zelalem Ayenew, Dylan Fox, David Potapovs, David Dolan, William Redmond, Kacper Wziatek, Daniel Lane, Sam Dolan, Jason Doolan.

Under 16 Boys Contest Local Derby Fixture

In this division three second round game played in Athlone, Garrycastle, playing with the advantage of a slight wind dominated the first half and looked to be in full control. Points from Darragh Glennon (5 ) and Dylan Nicholson (2 ) led to a five point lead at halftime for the visitors.

However, it was all change in the second half with the Athlone players upping their game. The concession of two goals and a point in the first 10 minutes of the half by the Garrycastle boys gave Athlone a lead which they never lost.

Despite their best efforts the Garrycastle boys could not regain the momentum they had in the first half, their only point in the half was a Darragh Glennon free in the 48th minute.

Team - James Derwin, Riain Hayden, Daniel Stankard, Jack Dowling, Rory O’Connor, Oisin Donoghue, Breen Redmond, Darragh Glennon, Jack Tucker, Senan Nugent, Dylan Nicholson, Fionn Murphy, Ryan Kilmurray, Darragh Clyne, Jack Kilmurray. Subs: Eoin Joyce, Conor Keegan, Scott Lowe, Aidan Costello.
