The Under 12 side were the first side to play an official fixture for 2024, travelling to Rochfortbridge on Friday last to play St Brigids.

While the home side came out on top in an exciting and much enjoyed encounter all the team played well and for many it was their first official club match. Thanks to mentors Danny McMonagle, Ollie Baker, Frank Kelly and David O’Shaughnessy for their efforts on the day.

Under 15s

The club’s Under 15 team played a challenge game against Offaly side Ballinamere/Durrow recently. Played in constant wind and rain they came away with a well earned victory on a scoreline of 4-10 to 2-6. All players gave a great performance and showed great commitment and skill.

Healthy Club

As part of the Southern Gaels Healthy Club initiative run by Irene O’Neill, the club hosted a coffee morning for retired hurlers and camogie players on Monday last. It is hoped to make it a monthly event.

St. Patrick’s Day Parades

Southern Gaels took part in both the Athlone and Moate parades and had a large numbers of players and adults in attendance. Thanks to all who took part and made the occasions most enjoyable. Special thanks to Louise Heavin, Mayor of the Athlone-Moate Municipal District who marched with the club as a guest.
