I wish to take a moment to remember Seán Quilty, who died last week.
For many readers of my Local History column, Seán needs no introduction. Seán was a longtime member of The Old Athlone Society and it was through that society that I first got to know him. He had a great interest in history and he was always very generous with his time.
Of course, the society was but one small part of his action-packed life. Seán was a leading member of many local organisations, particularly after his long and distinguished career in the Defence Forces.
On behalf of myself and on behalf of The Old Athlone Society, I offer condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
