Dolan selected on Fine Gael ticket to contest local elections in June 2024

Councillor John Dolan, the sitting Fine Gael elected representative in the Athlone electoral area, has been selected to run again in the Local Elections which will be held in June 2024.

Local European Affairs Minister, Deputy Peter Burke, welcomed this decision, as he addressed a packed convention which was hosted to select the sitting councillor on Thursday evening last.

Commending Cllr Dolan’s selection, Deputy Burke stated that the sitting councillor has proven to be extremely accessible and approachable during his term as an elected representative.

“John has been a fine candidate and an extremely hard-working councillor over his tenure in Westmeath County Council. He understands the needs of the community, both in Athlone town and in the more rural areas, and has been an extremely accessible and approachable local representative.

“My office works very closely with John and thankfully we have been able to get many problems solved together over the years, on behalf of constituents in South Westmeath. I have no doubt voters will reward John for this hard work when it comes to the elections next June, but there is another six months of work to do before we come to that point.

“It is also great to see a packed convention and a lot of local interest in the meeting, especially as the weather was particularly poor on Thursday night. Ruairi Keyes also considered running, but pulled out on the night and I am sure we will see his name again in the future.

“Thanks to Senator Aisling Dolan who agreed to chair the convention, and also to my colleague Senator Mícheál Carrigy for attending,” Deputy Burke stated.
