Southern Gaels 0-14
Despite being 0-6 to 0-11 adrift at halftime, Clonkill turned in an excellent performance in the second half to emerge victorious in this sem-ifinal played in TEG Cusack Park Mullingar on Saturday.
Gaels dominated the opening half with six points from play with Chulainn Dowd adding five from placed balls. However, Clonkill netted twice in the opening ten minutes of the second half and added six additional points to secure victory. All Gaels could add were three pointed frees from Dowd.

Gaels contest inaugural underage camogie final
A moment of Southern Gaels history was created in Castletown Geoghegan recently as the club’s U14 camogie team competed in their inaugural final.
Facing combination team Oliver Plunketts, Mullingar and St Brigid’s Rochfortbridge, who fielded 28 on their panel, the club’s 18 players, a combination of U14s, U12s and U10s, gave a fantastic performance, in the process announcing this team on the Westmeath camogie scene with aplomb.
Captain Sally Fleming opened the scoring in the first five minutes and there followed a great first half that saw both sides compete to a high standard leaving the half-time score slightly in favour of the combination club.
The second half saw OPCC/St Brigid’s roll on fresh legs and they ran out winners in the end with some well worked goals that put the contest out of reach of the hard working Gaels girls.
For their first year as an official team, this squad have gone from strength to strength and many thanks goes to players, parents and mentors for establishing a great Camogie team that will develop and grow in years to come. Girls Abú!
Under 13 Semi-Final
Southern Gaels 2-5 Raharney 1-4
Southern Gaels defeated Raharney in the Division 2 U13 semi-final in what was a tightly contested fixture. With conditions heavy after torrential rainfall scores were difficult to come by.
Adam O’Brien put the Gaels ahead with a well taken long range free. Raharney scored two points in quick succession and were nearly further ahead except for a brilliant save by Nathan Quigley blocking down a very dangerous high ball.
The Gaels took the lead with a great goal by Aodhán Fallon and this was followed by points from Sam Meegan and Adam O’Brien. The full forward line of LJ Kelly, Fearghal Kelly and James Cahill put in huge shift and were unlucky not to be rewarded with a few scores in the first half, the Gaels going in 1-3 to 0-2 ahead at the interval whistle.
Raharney started the second half with a high tempo and scored two points. The Gaels backline were under sustained pressure for the next 15 minutes, but Cillian Lee, Cian Mannion and Tom O’Keeffe in the full back line were immense during this period and were ably assisted by Conall Lambe, Daniel Crosbie and Shane Cahill on the half back line.
James Cahill scored a crucial goal with 15 minutes to go after good work by Eoghan Hardiman, Senan Kelly, Marcus O’Dwyer and Robert Connor, but Raharney then hit back with a goal from a close range free.
Ryan Cunningham covered the entire field from centrefield along with Sam Meegan and they set up the final two scores by Adam O’Brien and Aodhan O’Fallon. Adam McCormack, Thomas Walsh and Matthew Mollaghan battled for every ball and put the Raharney back line under pressure ensuing they couldn’t push up and get a vital score.
At the final whistle the scoreboard favoured Gaels gaining their place in the final and a fixture to be played against Delvin.
