Citylink has launched a new bus route - 721, in Castlebar and Tuam, one which will be a welcome addition to an already successful and established privately owned transport service and forms part of our strategic expansion program for 2023/24.
This route is the first in 20 years to give passengers an affordable service from Mayo to Dublin Airport, with stops originating in Castlebar and servicing Claremorris, Tuam, Athlone (TUS ), Dublin city and airport. The new route is accessible seven days a week with six return journeys per day.
The launch was a huge success with great interest from the wider community, positive feedback from MidWest Radio listeners and high-volume tickets sales nationwide.
In Castlebar, Gratitude was afforded to Mayo County Council for their support in facilitating the launch, to those local councillors in attendance and to Deputy Jack Chambers, Junior Minister, Department of Transport, for taking time out of his busy schedule to be present.
“I was delighted to attend the launch of CityLink’s new route connecting Castlebar to Dublin City and Dublin Airport. I understand there has already been huge demand in the new service which is very encouraging.
“Improving public transport links between the West of the country and Dublin is something I am very keen to see progressed as Minister. This year my department is investing €1.9 billion in green, cleaner travel options such as public transport, walking and cycling infrastructure as well as carbon reduction programmes to help support a shift away from car use where possible.
“This new service from CityLink will provide improved connectivity seven days a week and will be of enormous benefit to so many people. I would like to congratulate CityLink and wish the company and all passengers on the new route the best of luck,” Minister Chambers stated.
In Tuam, appreciation was expressed to the Parish Centre, local councillors, media and Minister Anne Rabbitte for her attendance and on-going support of Citylink and GoBus’ inclusion and accessibility programme that was launched earlier this summer, through Hidden Disabilities.
By recognising the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, the company aims to eliminate barriers and make public transportation more accessible for individuals with disabilities and additional needs, empowering them to travel freely and independently.
To celebrate route 721, Castlebar-Dublin Airport opening for service on September 25, there is a special introductory offer for passengers of €5 each way. The offer is only available online at www.citylink.ie and pre-booking is now open, applicable for travel up to and including Dec 31.
