Toyota Ireland tells us that their new fifth-generation Prius is now available at their dealerships nationwide.

The eye-catching Prius is available exclusively as a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV ) and is priced from €45,900 (excludes delivery and related fees ).

Toyota says that it expects demand for the new generation model to be high. It features a sleek, sloping design, which Toyota says represents a stylish evolution from the original world-popular Prius which has sold over five million units to date.

It adds that key features include a 12.3” Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system, a new 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery and 19” alloys.

Toyota boasts that the Prius PHEV does not compromise on hybrid energy efficiency, capable of doing up to 71km (subject to final homologation ) in zero emissions mode after a single charge. The Japanese carmaker points to their wide range including hybrid electrics (HEVs ), plug-in hybrids - PHEVs (RAV4 ), and their all-electric (BEV ), the bZ4X.

Toyota claims that daily journeys for the majority of Prius PHEV drivers will run like an EV, before swapping to an efficient hybrid model when battery power depletes.
