Local Fianna Fáil Councillor, Frankie Keena, has welcomed the provision of new housing stock in the Athlone-Moate Municipal District, the elected representative being present at the official engagements for the sod-turning and official opening at six development sites in recent times.
“It was a privilege to be present, in the company of Minister for Housing, Deputy Darragh O’Brien and my fellow elected representatives, at the engagements for the sod turning and official opening of six housing developments which will provide 105 social and affordable units for the local public.
“The busy itinerary for the day included the official opening of houses at Annsfield Court, Baylough, Bower Hill and Mount Carmel Drive, Moate, while offical sod turning took place on sites at Dun an Ri, Coosan, Greally Park, Clonbrusk and Gort an Locha, Moate.
“This is most certainly a good news story as it will greatly assist the numerous families in our District who are seeking a permanent residence. Apart from the provision of these houses, it is so important to highlight that the developments at Bower Hill and Dun An Ri will also provide large numbers of private houses.
“In saying this, I wish to note that I am a realist and hence very aware of the large numbers of people on the council housing list who are looking for a home. My heart goes out to all those families who are stressed and deeply worried as they try to find a home.
“However, I am pleased to note that there are many other large-scale housing developments in the Athlone area which are at advanced stages of planning and it is expected that construction work on a number of these projects will commence towards the end of this year,” Cllr Keena concluded.
