The Buccaneers Touch Rugby annual awards were recently hosted at which numerous players were recognised for their contributions during the competitive season.

Player of the Year - Aoife Purtill

Aoife impressed during 2022 with her leadership, work-rate and will to win being one of the seven Buccaneers players who won a European Championship bronze medal as part of the Ireland U15s squad.

Player of the Year - Philip Finnan

Philip was also part of the successful Ireland U15 squad, scoring 10 crucial tries. As well as being a prolific try scorer for both club and country, Philip is an excellent defensive player, always taking up the right positions in defence and frequently chasing back to make last gasp touches.

Try of the Year - Alex Connor

Alex is a newcomer to the game having started playing in the summer of 2022. He showed his ability with his winning try against Racoon West in the Athlone leg of the Ireland Touch Series. Getting possession on his own line, he sidestepped the defence and ran the length of the field, outpacing the chasing defenders before touching down.

Spirit of Touch Award - Anthony Quinn

Anthony is one of our most dedicated players who rarely misses training or matches. He took part in everything from the youth matches to the Ireland Touch Series to the elite ITL. He is always available to help out at training in any way he can.

Spirit of Touch Award - Sofia Rizza

Sofia is one of our most improved players this year and is a very popular player in the team. Some footage of her excellent try-scoring exploits (and those of the other award winners ) can be found on the Buccaneers Touch Rugby facebook page or buccaneers_rfc on Instagram.
