Southern Gael's juvenile teams savoured a week to remember with victories in their respective grades in the Westmeath hurling championship.
The Under 17s started the week with a well merited win away to St Brigids in a high scoring game. They won by a point, 3-17 to 2-19 with some panel players giving top class performances and now top their group with four points.
The Under 15 side accounted for Delvin by 5-7 to 1-7 to get back on track in the championship and showed impressive skilful hurling, while the Under 13s had a comfortable home win over Cullion in their first outing scoring 4-13. Conditions were awful with rain throughout but both sides served up some fine hurling. They will hope to continue this form over the coming weeks
Intermediate Championship
The second round game against Castletown Geoghegan was postponed this week due to adverse weather and a flooded pitch. The fixture will be played at a later date.
Under 15 Tournament
The Under 15s followed up their championship victory in impressive style while competing in a tournament last weekend. It comprised of Southern Gaels, Ballinamere/Durrow (Offaly ), Tullaroan and Barrow Rangers (both Kilkenny ). Each team played three round-robin games and a final or shield final. Gaels performed well and defeated Tullaroan in the Shield final on a scoreline of 1-8 to 0-7. Southern Gaels Under 15 captain Aaron Hardiman was presented with the Ballinamere/Durrow Shield Trophy by Brendan Buggy.
