Tubberclair maintained a winning start to their intermediate football championship campaign with a merited victory over St Mary’s Rochfortbridge at a rain sodden TEG Cusack Park venue on Sunday evening.
A controlled second half performance enable the desired result to materialise and was an improvement on the opening moiety performance in which the victors trailed by three points early in the contest before Oisin O’Meara restored parity with a well taken goal.
The goal was created with some very fast attacking play which involved numerous players and was the boost of confidence required with additional points from Eoghan McCabe and Rory Delaney ensuring Tubberclair were to the scoreboard fore at half time.
As the heavy rain began to fall for the second half Tubberclair started brightly quickly and soon were in the ascendancy as the contest progressed. ON his return to the playing fray from injury, Matthew Whittaker raised a white flag and complemented with further points from McCabe, O’Meara, Kelleher and Delaney, Tubberclair ensured victory, a result which sees last year’s defeated finalists head Section A of the intermediate championship with two games played.
