Derryglad Folk and Heritage Museum recently celebrated its milestone anniversary in style with a large crowd descending upon the popular and award winning attraction to reflect upon 25 years of memories.

Music, song, dance and storytelling were the essentials of the occasion with all those in attendance savouring the prevalent celebratory atmosphere.

Music was provided by Sean and Lucy Nally (Clonown ), Ronan Hanrahan (Taughmaconnell ) and Nigel Tully (Clontuskret ).

Internationally renowned storyteller, Vincent Pierce (Knockcroghery ), regaled the crowd with his entertaining words, while Kevin Cunniffe (Taughmaconnell ), demonstrated the art of Sean-Nós dancing, accompanied by Batty O'Brien on the trumpet.

The main attraction of the occasion was the demonstration of old style butter making by the Carter family from Laois.

The 25th anniversary cake was cut by Helen O'Brien (Milltown ) and it was a further piece of history at the museum as it was her late mother who conducted a similar honour at the official opening of Derryglad Folk and Heritage Museum in 1998.

The museum was officially opened by Brendan Shine on June 14, 1998, but the renowned local singing star was unable to attend the celebrations due to his tour commitments.

As the occasion was also a fundraising initiative for Mayo-Roscommon Hospice, proprietor Charlie Finneran thanked all those in attendance for their donations to such a worthy cause.

Charlie also detailed a brief history of the museum and the in-house collection attained over 25 years.

Upon the conclusion of the celebrations, a sum of €3,515 was raise for the Mayo-Roscommon Hospice.
