Complementing resounding success at the 2022 AIMS awards, Athlone Musical Society claimed further plaudits at the 2023 ceremony this past weekend, their production of Chess receiving due recognition in three categories.

The Society claimed the prestigious Best Chorus accolade in the Gilbert section of the competition, while there was also notable recognition for Lucia Evans, runner-up in the Best Female category and Ger Madden, runner-up in the Best Musical Director category, as the awards which unite musical societies nationally took pride of place in Killarney at the weekend.

Athlone Musical Society would like to thank all those who attended Chess this year. A show is nothing without an audience, and the rave reviews and huge applause received after each performance certainly spurred the cast and crew on to deliver an experience that grew and grew each night they were on stage.

Thoughts now turn to the Society's 2024 production, the committee confirming in recent times that Urinetown The Musical will perform in the Dean Crowe Theatre in March of next year.

Urinetown: The Musical is a musical comedy which satirises the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, and municipal politics, Athlone Musical Society noting on their various social media channels that further information relating to the show will be announced in due course.
