The Southern Gaels’ Under 13 team were presented with their Division Two Shield medals on Sunday last in the Gael Scoil.
This squad also won the Division Two League earlier in the year. A very promising group of young hurlers. Half of the group will move to play with the Under 15s squad next year, the remainder still eligible for the Under 13 age group. The team defeated Delvin in both finals.

Congratulations to Ruairí Ó Duibhir who has been selected on the county minor hurling panel for 2023. Also, to Cathal Hardiman and Cillian Geary who are on the minor football panel. The club wishes the players chosen every success.

Team of the Month
Congratulations to the Under 19 team and management who won the Athlone Community Radio ‘Team of the Month’ award for November. The award recognised their winning of the Westmeath Under 19 Division Two title last month. It was the first time the club succeeded in winning a title transitioning between juvenile and adult levels for thirty-two years, the previous one being the Under 21 Division Two title in 1990.
Players of the Year
A meeting of players to plan for 2023 was held last weekend with mentors Martin Geary, Tom Murphy and Tony O’Keeffe. There are currently about 40 adult players in the club but new members are always welcome. Training for the season will begin in early January.
