A Mullingar man who has already received 15 and 20 year driving disqualifications has been further disqualified at Mullingar District Court.
James Delaney of Russellstown pleaded guilty to driving without insurance on two occasions, on March 2 2008 and January 25 2009.
Solicitor Leo Brannigan described his client’s actions as “daft”, saying he had the means to pay for insurance but his actions meant his disqualification was getting longer.
Mr Delaney was deemed to be a suitable candidate for community service and “in the interests of the community at large, and his family, if he remains in gainful employment,” Judge Neilan imposed two 240 hour orders, the maximum available.
He also disqualified the 27-year-old for five years on each count.
The judge suggested wryly that he himself “may well have passed from this bench if not this life” before Mr Delaney is entitled to apply to have his licence restored.
