Athlone Church of Ireland to raise Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Domestic Abuse awareness

Athlone Church of Ireland Parish are hoping to raise awareness about Gender Based Violence (GBV ) and Domestic Abuse by participating in the United Nations’ 16 days of activism against GBV and Domestic Abuse, starting on Saturday, November 26, at 12.45p.m.in St Mary’s Church, Church St. Athlone.

It is hoped to gather and stand together for a three minute silence at 1.03 pm as the focus is put on the shocking statistic that one in three women will experience some form of domestic abuse within their lifetime.

Representatives from Esker House (domestic abuse support service in Athlone ) will speak briefly about their services. Information on support services and phone numbers will also be available.

The whole purpose of the meeting is to raise awareness around this sensitive subject with both men and women invited to attend.
