Both Annual General Meetings of the women’s and men’s clubs were held in Athlone Golf Club last week.
Michael McBrearty was elected captain of the men’s club and Kathleen McDonnell was elected women’s captain. Tributes were paid to the outgoing captains, Francess McGettigan and Thomas O’Connor for their hard work and dedication to Athlone Golf Club during their year of office. Both incoming captains are wished an enjoyable and productive year in their roles.
The Secret Science of Successful Golf
Midlands Science, as part of National Science Week, held a very thought provoking and interesting lecture on the Secret Science of Successful Golf last Monday evening in the clubhouse. The lecture was by sports psychologist Dr Eoghan McNeill who specialises in how sports psychology can improve your golf game and was thoroughly enjoyed by the large attendance.
Club Competitions
Winter competitions are now in full swing over 12 holes. This weekend’s competition for men is a Mini Hamper playable on Saturday or Sunday. The usual women’s competition takes place on Saturday and Tuesday.
The Plumbers Invitational Fourball which was cancelled recently due to inclement weather will be held this Saturday. Plumbers are reminded to book their tee time on the BRS booking system.
