A book of condolence will remain open at Athlone Civic Centre to members of the local public who wish to show their support and express their sympathies to families impacted by the tragic explosion in Creeslough, County Donegal, on Friday last.
The book of condolence was opened at the request of Cllr Aengus O’Rourke, Cathaoirleach, Westmeath County Council, who stated that he had been in contact with his counterpart in County Donegal to express his sympathies on behalf of the people of the county.
“As Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, on behalf of all the people of Westmeath, I want to express our deepest sympathies to the families of the ten people who lost their lives in the Creeslough tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are also with those who are injured, some of whom are currently in a critical condition. This terrible tragedy has not just rocked Donegal but the entire country. We are all stunned by the scale and freak nature of the explosion and the awful consequences.
“I have been in contact with the Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr Liam Blaney to pass on our condolences as a county and I have arranged for a book of condolence to be open at Athlone’s Civic Centre until 5pm on Friday of this week. The Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council responded to my message of condolences I sent him on Saturday. Cllr Liam Blaney, would like me to pass on his appreciation to the people of Westmeath for the warm message received and for the many prayers being said in support of the people of Creeslough and Donegal,” Cllr O’Rourke stated.
