Substantial funding has been allocated to the Portlick amenity in Glasson and Toorfelim Greenway in Moate under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
Both outdoor amenities will receive €30,000 towards their enhancement encouraging members of the local community to enjoy the hidden gems within their immediate vicinity as the summer season progresses.
Funding allocated to the Portlick amenity will see an upgrade to the looped walk trail and toilet facilities therein, while money afforded towards Toorfelim Greenway will allow for the provision of ramped access to the Old Rail Trail.
Welcoming the announcement, local Minister of State, Deputy Peter Burke, stated that the upgraded projects will provide huge benefit to families and individuals across the county.
“Outdoor activities play a key role in our local communities and we have seen this throughout the recent pandemic. Recreation tourism is growing internationally and has the potential to have major economic spin-off benefits for our rural towns and villages,” Deputy Burke asserted.
