An urgent accommodation call has been issued for welcoming hosts at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann with event organisers preparing to welcome in excess of 500,000 personnel to Mullingar for the much anticipated nine day occasion.
As Mullingar prepares for the return of Fleadh Cheoil after 60 years, the organisers anticipate visitor numbers of more than 500,000 between July 31 and August 8.
Accommodation is already in short supply with the Fleadh executive committee appealing to locals throughout the county to open their doors and make room for fleadh performers and visitors.
“This is perhaps the biggest event that Mullingar has ever hosted and we want to roll out the welcome mat for all who visit the town and the county.
“We are grateful to the hosts who have opened their doors so far, to welcome visitors to the fleadh, and we’d encourage all hosts, hotels and B&Bs to keep accommodation affordable and accessible to all who want to join in the celebrations, to listen to wonderful traditional music, cheer on our outstanding competitors, and take part in a celebration of Irish culture,” Fleadh Executive Committee chairperson, Joe Connaire, stated.
To date, there has been an inordinate amount of accommodation offered by homeowners to Fleadh performers and attendees who will flock to Mullingar en masse for the nine day festival.
However, organisers are seeking the use of further accommodation so that many more can experience this world-class event.
