Athlone Musical Society savour AIMS success with impressive awards haul

It was certainly a night to remember in the fabled history of Athlone Musical Society at the All Ireland Musical Society (AIMS ) awards ceremony held in Killarney last weekend.

Having been nominated for an impressive 10 award categories for their production of ‘All Shook Up’, the Society were delighted and proud to take home a record breaking five awards in the Gilbert category.

Olive Martin was awarded the Mary Kelly Unsung Hero award for her contribution and commitment to the Society over the past 43 years, while Kori Kilduff won the award for Best Comedienne for her brilliant portrayal of Miss Sandra. The society were also winners of Best Chorus and Best Choreography, both amazing achievements, and a recognition of the wonderful standard of the entire cast and superb tutelage of Ger Madden, Musical Director and Jay Molyneux, Choreographer. Finally, the Front of House Team, who always transform the Dean Crowe Theatre during the run, were rewarded with Best House Management which was thoroughly deserved. The Society were also runner up in the Best Overall Show category, which was an amazing achievement and topped off a brilliant night.

A large contingent travelled from Athlone to enjoy the weekend of celebrations which gave them an opportunity to meet up once more with friends new and old from Musical societies throughout the country.

The awards were a recognition of the hard work and dedication of the committee, production team, cast and crew who worked tirelessly to bring such a well-received production to the Dean Crowe Theatre.

Plans are already afoot for the 2023 production, details of which will be released in due course. The Society looks forward to next years awards weekend in the hope that they can emulate or even exceed this year’s excellent haul!
