TUS providing opportunities through Government’s recent Springboard+ funding stream

The Government’s recent Springboard+ announcement sees one of Ireland’s newly formed Technological Universities, Technological University of the Shannon (TUS ), offering 1,300 places across twenty-nine programmes for learners across its campuses for 2022/23.

Aimed at individuals who are currently in employment, returning to education or unemployed applicants, the Springboard+ funded education programmes support learners to gain the requisite expertise and abilities to upskill or reskill in areas of regional and national importance.

Supporting Ireland’s industries of critical importance, the programmes are specifically designed to train or retrain skills for future job prosperity. The Springboard+ programmes provide 90% funding for employed applicants and 100% funding for unemployed applicants, while Level 6 Springboard programmes will be free to all successful candidates.

“We are delighted to have successfully secured Springboard+ funding for our newly formed TU this year. We have worked tirelessly to ensure our Springboard+ programmes meet the evolving needs of our region’s industries and to ensure that our learners are industry-ready having successfully upskilled or reskilled,” Dr Michael Tobin, Dean of Continuing, Online and Professional Learning at TUS Midlands, stated.

“Through our uniquely collaborative educational leadership we continually strive to meet the needs of our region’s societies, always driving to facilitate sustainable economic growth and development across the Midlands, Midwest and Shannon areas of Ireland,” Dean of Flexible and Work Based Learning, Director Industry Engagement at TUS Midwest, Seamus Hoyne, agreed, added.

“We have an unprecedented reputation for working in cooperation with our regional industries, working together informs our offerings and ensures our students are work-ready at course completion. Simultaneously we work to support our students, the majority of our programmes are blended or online. These channels, together with our Virtual Learning Environment provide flexible access to broad audiences striking the right balance between home, work, play and study,” Dr Orlaith Borthwick Head of Flexible and Professional Learning at TUS Midwest, continued.

All of the courses provided at TUS echo the needs of the Midlands and Midwest’s industries and societies, providing the means for those in employment or seeking employment to further develop their skillset. Expert support is vital to keeping enterprises up and running.

“Continuing to support high tech jobs, economic growth and continued job prosperity demands our workforce to continuously upskill, our provision of Springboard+ programmes will have a positive significant impact on the creation of jobs, Ireland’s labour market and for individual job satisfaction,” Seadna Ryan, Head of the Department of Lifelong Learning, TUS Midlands, remarked.
