The number of Ukrainian refugees living in Westmeath since the Russian invasion commenced in February has been announced by the Central Statistics Office (CSO ).
The data shown according to the local electoral area notes that there are currently 310 Ukraine nationals living in Athlone, while 27 Ukrainians are residing in Moate.
“This ‘Arrivals from Ukraine in Ireland’ press release is based on administrative data up to 22 May. It is the first publication by the Central Statistics Office (CSO ) providing insights into Ireland’s response to the Ukrainian crisis. This release includes an analysis of Ukrainian arrivals who are availing of support and services from the Department of Social Protection.
“Using the local post office address as a proxy for place of residence, arrivals from Ukraine are present in all local electoral areas and the North Inner City in Dublin had the highest number of associated arrivals from Ukraine at 1,156.
“There were 33,151 arrivals from Ukraine in Ireland by the week ending May 22, of which 29 percent were aged 14 or under. Women, aged 20 and over, account for 48 percent of arrivals to date, while individuals aged 0-19 account for 38 percent.
“The highest percentage of those arriving (43 percent or 14,271 individuals ) were categorized as ‘One parent with children’ under the broad relationship classification headings used.
In total, 29,718 Ukrainians are living in Ireland as of May 23.
