Theatre goers who have been starved of live entertainment for nearly two years can return to a real treat when Beezneez Theatre Company visit Roscommon Arts Centre with the premiere of John McDwyer’s new play, TWILIGHT on Tuesday, February 8 at 8pm.
Well known for his though provoking plays such as Lovely Leitrim, United, An Ordinary Man and Callaghan’s Place and his sparkling comedies, Unforgiven and Turning Mammy, the playwright describes TWILIGHT as a little bit of both with the leaning towards thought provoking themes which will give rise to much discussion afterwards.
Beezneez presented a trial run of the play in October 2019 and such was the positive audience reaction that a national tour was immediately scheduled for Spring 2020. Covid restrictions meant the tour was cancelled as was a subsequent 2021 tour. Beezneez are keeping everything crossed that this tour will finally get the play the audience it deserves.
McDwyer says that TWILIGHT is a reflective play which mirrors the way he currently feels, having emerged from lockdown. He says, ‘one of the characters in the play says that his thoughts have turned to the fact that he is living the final quarter of his life and I can relate to that so the play is reflective of that fact and resolution of life long differences is high on the character’s agenda’.
Two old friends meet for the first time for over thirty-five years. Why have they not met in all that time and why are they meeting now? If there are issues between them will they succeed in resolving them? Starring two All-Ireland winning actors, John McDwyer (Educating Rita ) and Tom Walsh (The Communication Cord ) TWILIGHT plays in Roscommon Arts Centre on Tuesday February 8th at 8pm.
Tickets are available now from 09066 25824 and from www.roscommonartscentre.ie
