Mullingar Chamber welcomes decision to reduce water rates

Paul O’Brennan, president of the Mullingar Chamber has welcomed the recent decision made by Westmeath County Council to give a discount for water rates to those businesses that have seen the largest increase in rate charges such as hotels and restaurants. Commenting on the recent announcement, Paul O’Brennan said, “The Mullingar Chamber have raised the issue of the increase in water charges with the council and has voiced it’s concerns on several occasions about the effects that this would have on local businesses during these difficult times. At a recent meeting with the council the Mullingar Chamber was informed of the decision and I am relieved that the council has made this decision, which will benefit those businesses that have seen the greatest increase in water charges. Mullingar’s hotels and restaurants provide a vital service and are also major employers in the town.”

Westmeath County Council will be contacting those companies entitled to the discount in the coming weeks.
