Mullingar’s Lesley Butler to follow in the (eco)footprints of Elvis

Ben & Jerry’s Climate Change College ambassador recipient of Young Person of The Year Award

Ben & Jerry’s Climate Change College ambassador, Lesley Butler, from Mullingar, has just been announced this year’s recipient of The Outstanding Young Person Award from Junior Chamber International Ireland (JCI ). Joining an illustrious list of recipients which includes Orsen Welles, Elvis Presley, and JFK, Lesley wins her award in the Environmental Responsibility category.

As a recipient of the JCI’s Outstanding Young Person Award in Ireland Lesley goes on to qualify for The Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP ) Programme. Lesley’s induction into the eco warrior world was with the Ben & Jerry’s Climate Change College in 2007 where she mounted a campaign to help SMEs reduce their carbon emissions. Since then she has continued to help companies improve their energy efficiency and cut costs with authentic solutions.

Lesley Butler commented, “The Ben & Jerry’s Climate Change College gave me the stepping stone to meet so many wonderful people and reinforce and support my enthusiasm for all things green and spread the eco love and awareness to people, and businesses across Ireland, and also internationally. Being recognised by the TOYP programme and the JCI for this work really reinforcing how important these environmental issues are and it shows that the work that we’ve been doing is making an impact at home!”

Ben & Jerry’s Climate Change College is one part of the many eco activities undertaken by Ben & Jerry’s which includes the Cool Your Jets carbon offsetting programme, Caring Dairy, and Climate Neutral activities.
