The Dean Crowe Theatre and Arts Centre will host a variety of public events on stage this November as Covid-19 public health measures ease.
One Tribe – ‘Together as One’ Exhibition
This energetic art and multimedia exhibition features the work created by One Tribe participants in 2020 and 2021.
The exhibition celebrates the fifth year of this inspiring arts ability partnership between The Dean Crowe Theatre and Arts Centre, St. Hilda’s Services and Rehab Care Services Athlone.
One Tribe offers the opportunity for service users to take part in art, dance and drama workshops.
Led by Sandy Hughes, Colin Fahy, Aishling Fennell, Muirenn Lyons and Alix Bailey, the project moved online in 2020 and 2021 as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic. This exhibition marks the return to in-person activity and presents the extraordinary results created under the most challenging restrictions.
Also featured in the exhibition, Colin Fahy’s documentary and archive footage offers us a glimpse into the transformation and activity of One Tribe 4 and One Tribe 5.
This project is part of the Creative Ireland programme and is funded by Creative Westmeath.
The Iron Annie Literary Cabaret
To perform on Wednesday, November 3, at 8pm, The Iron Annie Literary Cabaret is a celebration of music, theatre and literature.
Based on Luke Cassidy’s debut novel Iron Annie, it tells the story of Aoife, a major figure in Dundalk’s small-town underworld, and her fatal attraction to Annie, a magnetic and elusive force that barged into her life. Think Reservoir Dogs meets Thelma and Louise meets the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
This production features performances by Eleanor McLoughlin as Aoife, accompanied by musical performances by folk duo the Dandelion Few and newly-formed rock band False Slag. Directed by Peter Moreton, artistic director of the Applecart Arts Centre (London ), it is produced by Luke Cassidy, with production design by Marianne Thibault. The production is made possible with the support of the Arts Council of Ireland and Louth County Council.

Still Voices Film Festival – ‘Distant Voices Still Lives’
Acclaimed director Terence Davies will attend the 2021 Still Voices Film Festival on Friday, November 5, for a special screening of his 1988 masterpiece Distant Voices, Still Lives which will be followed by a conversation between Davies and film critic John Maguire.
Now that Eileen, Maisie, and Tony are adults, their childhood memories – and in particular those associated with their father – are inconsistent. While Eileen clings to happier times, her siblings remember his brutal violent nature, which has been a major influence on their growth and development.
This troubled family must deal with the day-to-day alongside their past. Terence Davies creates a loving portrait with this partly autobiographical tale (shot in two sections ), and it was voted one of the greatest films by Sight & Sound.

Keith Walsh – ‘Pure Mental’
Former 2FM breakfast show presenter, Keith Walsh presents his new play, 'Pure Mental', on stage at the Dean Crowe Theatre on Thursday, November 25, at 8pm.
Having finished up a five-year stint presenting on national radio, in the pressure cooker that is a breakfast show, Keith has finally found a bit of time for himself - more importantly, he’s found time to check in with his mental health.
Midlife Crisis? Midlife awakening? Breakdown? We’ll find out. This show is part of his therapy and you’re his therapist!
Join him on a journey of introspection and exploration, as he locates his demons and traumas in order to try and find the real person underneath the fuzzy mess of stress.
Pure Mental is a live theatre show put together with the help of acclaimed performer, writer and director Janet Moran (A Holy Show, Swing and My Romantic History ) in the strangest of Covid times – sometimes working in different rooms, often in different counties.
But like many others, they got there in the end. We have a show.
