MICHAEL SILKE
Buccaneers kick of their competitive season on Saturday week when they face Sligo in the opening round of the Connacht Senior League at Dubarry Park.
Each team has only four fixtures, two at home and two away. There are some other changes to the league in that the winners will qualify for the Bateman Cup semi-final and they will also go directly into the Connacht Senior Cup final.
So lots to play for in this curtailed league. Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with a squad session at Dubarry Park on this Saturday afternoon.
Cawley Cup fixtures for Buccaneers J1A team have also been released. They commence their campaign with a home test against Monivea on Sunday week. The Connacht Junior League fixtures will be announced shortly.

Ireland Sevens Disappoint
The Ireland Sevens squad disappointed at the Olympic Games, not hitting the form they are capable of. Perhaps their late qualification did not help as it gave them little time to come back down to earth following their success in Monaco. No sooner had they achieved that than they were virtually on the plane to Tokyo. Nevertheless it was a wonderful attainment in qualifying for
such an event as the Olympics, so well done to Jordan Conroy and his teammates.
Condolences
Deepest sympathy is extended to Yvonne O’Shea and family on the recent death of her grandmother Betty Ryan and to the family of the late Nancy Sheehy.
