While the Covid-19 public health restrictions have keep music venues closed and the audiences at home, one local business has been doing their best to keep music live.
In an initiative born out of a collaboration with a digital marketing college project, Friday nights have become Sofa Session nights for music fans all over the country.
"Live music is part of our culture and critically important to the social fabric of the country but with so many venues and pubs closed, musicians haven’t had an opportunity to get together let alone play together for over a year now.
"With the support of Maryrose Lyons of Bright Spark Consulting and a team of digital marketing students in a mentor group we have been giving local musicians a chance to get back on the road and perform in front of a live (all be it virtual ) audience every Friday night at 9pm.
"Streamed on our FaceBook and Instagram social media platforms, the Hudson Guitar Company Sofa Sessions have been gaining a growing audience since we started in mid-March.
Indeed, the musicians who have performed so far have relished the chance to get back out doing what they do best with and audience. While they can’t see or hear the audience, the positive comments flowing in on text messages take the place of applause for the moment!
"More acts are currently confirmed for the next few weeks with others showing great interest in getting on the bill," Gordon Clarke of Hudson Guitar Company, commented.
Gordon is delighted with how Sofa Sessions has been received.
“It’s been a lot of hard work getting the stage and technicals sorted for a live stream but we’re learning all the time.
“For the safety of all involved, we adhere to strict Covid-19 protocols while in the store which has been reconfigured to accommodate our stage set up. It’s really my way of giving back some support to musicians who have supported music businesses like mine over the years," Gordon added.
