Your opportunity to be a part of rock history awaits you at The Stables, Mullingar on Tuesday May 19, with the advent of Scrap Metal.
Scrap Metal is an RTE documentary series and Ireland’s first ever hard-rock tribute band tour, designed to discover Ireland’s best hard-rock tribute band and get them on the line-up for the ultimate gig – Glastonbudget, the premier world festival for tribute bands.
The tour kicks off on May 16 in Dolans Warehouse, Limerick, with Ireland’s greatest monsters of rock: Ireland Maiden, Metallitia, Thunderstruck, The Rubber Plants, and User Illusion.
The tour then takes in the Bridge House, Tullamore on May 17, before arriving in The Stables, Mullingar on May 19, for the penultimate stage of this supreme live rock event.
The Mullingar event will feature in concert the three remaining best hard-rock tribute bands in Ireland. After each gig the legendary rock guests and fans decide which bands go through to the next night, and after the final gig who get crowned the Scrap Metal champions.
Presiding over events and the judging panel in Mullingar will be Brian Tatler, founder of metal titans Diamond Head, once described by Kerrang! magazine as “the greatest British heavy metal band of all time”, and whom both Metallica and Megadeath have famously cited as their important early influence.
The tribute battle will be filmed for the high octane Scrap Metal documentary, scheduled to be shown on RTE this autumn.
Doors open at The Stables, Mullingar, at 8pm and the event will be filmed live for RTE. Filming will also take place around Mullingar on May 18 and 19, so watch out for Brian and the bands.
After Mullingar the tour ends with the final in Dublin’s Button Factory on May 21, where the last bands standing meet for the deciding live rock skirmish.
With rock legends such as Biff Byford (Saxon ), Brian Tatler (Diamond Head ) and Brian Roberson (Thin Lizzy, Motorhead ), along with Ireland’s most prominent music fans, casting their ears and eyes over the proceedings, one band will be chosen as Scrap Metal champions and selected to headline the Glastonbudget festival in the UK.
Featuring an incredible line-up, it promises to be the most entertaining and ultimate rock event of the season. So lock up your daughters, pull on your tight trousers, pick up your air guitar and get ready to bang your head.
