Athlone Credit Union makes donation gesture to Athlone Little Theatre

Continuing to make contributions to local community organisations, Athlone Credit Union made a donation of €1,000 to Athlone Little Theatre on Monday morning last.

Expressing her deep gratitude for the donation gesture, Chrissie Killian, Chairperson, Athlone Little Theatre, noted the detrimental impact which the present pandemic has had on the local arts sector.

“Since 1935, the Athlone Little Theatre Group has been very much a part of the community of Athlone and has contributed hugely to the cultural life of the people of Athlone. The restrictions imposed to combat the Covid-19 pandemic has hit our theatre very hard. Even at the lowest level of restrictions, we could not risk opening, endangering the health of our audiences and casts.

“We have, nevertheless, persisted in delivering socially distanced video clips of dramatic recordings, to sustain the appetites and lift the spirits of our loyal audience base, although we have not been able to gain any income from this to date.

“Meanwhile, the cost of maintaining and preserving our venerable building persists and minimum annual bills run to over €6,000. We are very grateful to Athlone Credit Union for their very generous support at this time,” Ms Keane remarked.

In response, Michael Evans, CEO, Athlone Credit Union (ACU ), noted that members had enjoyed many years of performances on stage at Athlone Little Theatre and looked forward to doing so in future times.

“Athlone Credit Union is supporting the community since 1966 and we are proud to make this donation to Athlone Little Theatre at this time,” Mr Evans commented.
