There has been a noted increase in drug driving incidents in recent times, it has been confirmed to the Athlone Advertiser this week.
Speaking to the newspaper in recent times, Sergeant Andrew Haran, noted such occurrences were more momentarily prevalent than drink driving incidents.
“There has been an increase in drug driving incidents within the locality and I would like to remind individuals that drugs remain in the system for an extended period of time when compared with alcohol. The concern is that individuals may be driving their vehicle impaired for up to six or seven days,” Sergeant Haran remarked.
Meanwhile, Sergeant Haran has also noted a rise in fraud crime in recent weeks.
“Fortunately, while physical criminality is not overly prevalent at this time, there has been an increase in the level of fraud crime, with one particular individual being the victim of a significant loss of money in this regard recently.
“I would like to remind individuals not to engage with persons unknown with regard to their finances. Your bank will not call or text you for financial information so please bear this in mind,” Sergeant Haran concluded.
