Athlone IT prepares to host virtual graduation ceremonies in December

It certainly will be a graduation experience to remember for the students of Athlone Institute of Technology this year as the annual formal ceremony will take place virtually at the progressive third level college in early December.

To take place on Thursday, December 3 and Friday, December 4, the virtual ceremony will witness the conferring of 1,889 undergraduate awards, 307 postgraduate awards, four masters by research and seven PhDs.

Briefing the students as the online invitations to the virtual ceremony were issued, Athlone IT President, Professor Ciaran Ó Catháin, afforded his congratulations to all graduates noting that the virtually held ceremony should not detract from their academic achievements.

“On behalf of all the management and staff of AIT, we wish you our sincerest congratulations on the successful completion of your examinations this year. This culminates in our official marking of your academic accomplishment at our virtual award ceremonies in December.

“Covid-19 may have altered how we conduct our graduation ceremony this year but not the depth of celebration that will mark your achievement. The format of this year’s ceremony does not lessen your achievement – it makes it special and noteworthy.

“The commitment and resilience you have shown in the successful completion of your academic studies and examinations this year demonstrate that you are ready for all the opportunities and challenges of the world of work and life ahead of you, wherever that may be.

“We wish you well on that journey, and we trust that you will always remember your third-level experience in AIT with fondness and with good memories.

“Finally, we hope that you celebrate your graduation safely and memorably with your family and friends,” Professor Ó Catháin enthused.
