As the festive season fast approaches, consumers will have the opportunity to avail of free parking within local authority car park zones, it was confirmed at the monthly meeting of Athlone Moate Municipal District on Monday afternoon.
Addressing the proposal, Cllr. Aengus O'Rourke stated the initiative was in place since 2009 and noted his aspiration that consumers would be able to avail of free car parking as they shopped in Athlone the week prior to Christmas.
Unanimous in their agreement, the elected representatives decided that there would be no charge for parking within Council designated car parks from Thursday, December 17 to Thursday, December 24 inclusive.
This eleven year initiative endeavours to encourage consumers to visit Athlone and view with the town has to offer during the festive season.
