A virtual challenge it may have been but the reality of completing a 26.2 miles marathon route was realised for members of Moate Athlone Running Group (MARG ) on Sunday last.
Akin to many sporting events this calendar year, Dublin City Marathon (DCM ) which takes place on October Bank Holiday Sunday, was cancelled due to the persistent presence of Covid-19, but this did not deter the MARG camber threading cohort who trained diligently through the summer months to complete their running task.
With a charitable ethos prevalent amongst the group, their DCM virtual challenge achievements were complemented by the raising of significant funds for Noah and Rowan Benson Gately, two brothers who have been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystropy.
With an initial target of €1,000, MARG have now raised almost €4,000, an astonishing feat and one for which the group, founded in 2014 by Athlone native Tommy Burke, can be most proud.
