Local South Westmeath Hospice coffee morning realises significant funds

Sisters, Arlene and Melissa McNeill, raised an astounding €6,000 during a recent coffee morning held in aid of the South Westmeath Hospice at their family pub, McNeills, on Connaught Street.

The socially distant event offered a huge range of donated treats for takeaway purposes.

“I am overjoyed to hear that the coffee morning was such a success. It was challenging to host it with the restrictions in place but we felt it was so important to not let this year pass without having such an event given that charities like the Hospice are losing out on fundraising during this pandemic.

“I am overwhelmed with the amount raised and to be honest I was not expecting to raise as much funds as we actually realised. Friends, family and customers are so generous and they parted with their cash to support us and for that, we are so very grateful.

“I would like to thank Marese, Lisa, Aine, Anna Marie, Cate, Tommie and Daniel who helped both with the event organisation and to the numerous local business that provided both raffle prizes and donations during the morning.

“It is this display of local generosity that shows how highly Athlone people appreciate the work of the Hospice and we want this to continue into the future,” Arlene enthused.
