Athlone Toastmasters to host online open night

Athlone Toastmasters has been a prominent feature on the Athlone social scene for nigh on 35 years.

In that time, approximately 700 people, men and women of all ages from different walks of life, from Athlone and the surrounding areas have benefited from the unparalleled training they have received in public speaking, communication and leadership skills through Toastmasters.

In addition to these skills, lockdown has recently reminded Toastmaster members just how flexible, adaptable and innovative the organisation can be. The twice-monthly meetings quickly moved online in March providing that reliable sense of connection and community, together with new experiences for members and guests.

Meeting online via Zoom has also brought some unanticipated but very welcome advantages and opportunities. With no travel time to meetings and less face-to-face nerves, members have also had the opportunity to connect with other Toastmasters and guests, not just from Athlone but from across the country and the world.

“Since March this year, I have attended Toastmaster meetings in Wicklow, London, Paris, New Zealand and Glasgow and all from the comfort of my own living room. meeting new experiences and new friends with common interests, all supporting one another in the safe, supportive learning environment that Toastmasters provides,” Maeve O’Healy-Harte, President, Athlone Toastmasters, remarked.

Athlone Toastmasters is delighted to announce that their ‘Open Evening’ will take place on Tuesday, October 13, at 8pm on Zoom.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for those of you, curious about what Toastmasters has to offer, to come along to the meeting, be our guest and find out what we are all about.

“This may be just what you need during the Winter months, gently pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, from the comfort of your own home. If you’d like to find out more, check out www.athlonetoastmasters.org You can also find us on Facebook,” Ms O’Healy-Harte concluded.
