Local Independent Councillor, Jamie Moran, has welcomed a financial allocation of €200,000 which will realise the installation of ten new moorings for boats and cruisers between Athlone Boat Club and the white bridge on the west side of the town.
“We all realise how busy Athlone Marina can become, particularly during the tourist season and this welcome investment will allow additional space for mooring purposes.
“This is a project on which I have been working in conjunction with the former OPW Minister, Waterways Ireland and Westmeath County Council and in tandem with the construction of the new Athlone Boat Club clubhouse and the eventual completion of the greenway bridge over the River Shannon, this will bring an enhanced development focus to the town,” Cllr Moran asserted.
