Athlone Branch of IWA a beneficiary of Arcadia 5kfor50k fundraising event

The Athlone Branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA ) are looking forward to being one of the focus charities this weekend in the ambitious Arcadia 5kfor50k fundraising event.

The core idea behind this initiative is to raise money for 10 local charities from Athlone and the surrounding areas whose fundraising activities has been halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To participate in this fundraising event persons are encouraged to engage in a 5km walk, run or cycle this weekend. The event is virtual, so you can do your 5km in the location of your choosing and you can register your exercise experience online at https://www.arcadiaathlone.ie/5kfor50k/

“We are delighted to be involved this weekend and we would urge everyone who can to get out, do a walk or run and support the Irish Wheelchair Association and all the charities involved.

“Fundraising has become increasingly difficult in the past few months. The monies raised from this project will continue to enhance the quality of service Irish Wheelchair Association delivers on the frontline in our local area,” Maureen Lee, Programme Assistant at the Irish Wheelchair Association in Clonbrusk Athlone, commented.

“The IWA Athlone branch had an outdoor event on the greenway, which was due to be held earlier this year, cancelled due to COVID-19. With the current restrictions on gatherings it is not easy for the charities to replace these lost funds so we would urge everyone to get out, do a 5km walk, run or cycle, and most importantly donate to support all local charities involved,2 Fiachra McLoughlin, Director of Arcadia, remarked.

While different local charities are in focus each week, all funds raised will be shared out amongst all the charities at the end. From Athlone, St Hilda’s were a focus charity for Stage 1 of the event, IWA Athlone branch are the Stage 3 charity focus, while South Westmeath Hospice will be a focus charity in Stage 4.

You donate to support all the charities on the gofundme page (https://www.gofundme.com/f/arcadia-5kfor50k ) or you can locate the gofundme page by searching for ‘5kfor50k’ on Google.
