Athlone Boat Club, together with their Carrick-on-Shannon and Sligo counterparts, enjoyed a welcome rowing experience in unison this past weekend at Lough Rynn in County Leitrim.
Rowers, family members and friends savoured a sporting occasion with a difference as the three renowned boat clubs took to the water in relaxed surrounds, returning to activity following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
While not an official ‘regatta’, the day commenced with 2k time trials followed by 2k finals, which were categorised by best times. Categories A through to C saw wins for Martin O’Grady, Donagh Claffey and Thomas O’Brien respectively.
Unlike the pressure of a Rowing Ireland regatta, Saturday proved to be a very convivial atmosphere laden occasion where friends united as the juniors and masters rowing teams took to the glistening waters.
