Confirmed COVID-19 cases attributed to local communities have been released into the public domain.
The figures, which are noted on the COVID-19 public health advice forum, detail the number of confirmed cases by electoral division and highlight the impact of the virus on the respective towns and villages within.
The urban area of Athlone (west and east ) accounts for a mere 15 confirmed COVID-19 cases, but the figures increases to 58 with the addition of the growth town’s west and east rural communities.
Moate, the second largest town in the county, accounts for 27 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Streamstown, boasting a population of 378, as per the census of 2016, has recorded 23 confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the community to date, a 6.08 percent incidence rate, the highest in the county.
The figures, analysed on a per population basis, are published by the Department of Health and are a collaboration also including Ordnance Survey Ireland, the All-Ireland Research Observatory, HPSC, HSE and the CSO.
