Government handling of COVID-19 crisis lauded by Fine Gael Councillor

Athlone Moate Municipal Fine Gael Councillor, John Dolan, has lauded the Government for the manner in which they have handled the national emergency posed by the Covid 19 virus.

“The Covid 19 virus is probably the most serious threat posed to our country and indeed the world for a long number of years. At times like these we look for leadership, both nationally and on a local level.

“The leadership shown by our Government, led by the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, has been of the highest standard.

“On St. Patricks night the Taoiseach addressed the nation, spelling out in a very honest way how serious this national emergency is and what we, as a nation, and as individuals can and should do. He also gave reassurance that we will get through this national emergency but economically it will have a serious impact on us,” Cllr. Dolan stated.

The Fine Gael Councillor further praised those workers on the front line who are doing their utmost in the ongoing fight against the crippling Coronavirus.

“I think that the national leadership shown by The Taoiseach and Ministers Harris, Coveney and Donoghue in particular has been excellent and as a nation we were lucky to have them still in situ.

“I also want to commend the bravery of our health care professionals who are on the front line in the fight against this virus, the Gardaí, defence forces personnel, our Council staff and all the other state agencies who are helping with this battle.

“Finally, I want to commend the workers in our shops and factories who are keeping goods and services produced and also to our postal personnel, delivery and haulage providers and to the many people who have contacted me with offers of help to anyone who needs assistance. My advice is keep safe and look out for your neighbours. As a country we will come through this,” Cllr Dolan emphasised.
