A number of Athlone based personnel successfully completed the NISO ‘Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety’ in Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT ) and were awarded certification at a presentation held in the Prince of Wales Hotel.
The course was hosted by AIT (who have hosted the education programme twice yearly since 2002 ) from September to December 2019.
Eleven course participants were Athlone based, three hailing from the Direct Provision Centre, while students also attended the course from Cavan, Leitrim, Longford, Galway, Roscommon, Tipperary, Laois, Dublin, Offaly and Westmeath.
Each participant received their certificate from Mr. Harry Gavin, President of NISO, John Flanagan (Midland NISO Branch Chairperson ) oversaw the presentation, while Seadna Ryan, Head of Dept of Lifelong Learning represented AIT.
Three participants hailing from the Direct Provision Centre in Athlone also took part. A second course is currently ongoing with 28 particpants and the next course will commence this autumn, beginning on Monday September 28 at AIT.
A significant number of the participants will advance into the part-time Level 7 degree in EHS Management which commences in the autumn at AIT.
