Buccaneers to host third annual business networking lunch

Buccaneers will host their third annual business networking lunch in the Sheraton Athlone Hotel tomorrow afternoon (Friday, February 7 ) from 1pm to 5pm.

This event has proved immensely popular to date and a very interesting and diverse trio of speakers – Feargal O’Rourke, Des Fitzgerald and Anne-Marie Taylor - will speak during the event. Orla Thornton, Director of Marketing and Communications at Athlone Institute of Technology, will once again moderate the occasion.

Feargal O’Rourke is Managing Partner of PwC in Ireland who have almost 3,000 employees in the country. He is a chartered accountant and tax expert credited with the ‘double Iris’ taxation system that has attracted massive overseas employers such as Facebook, Apple and Google to Ireland. The Athlonian is son of renowned politician Mary O’Rourke and the late Enda, who for many years was a highly efficient honorary Secretary of Athlone RFC (the precursor of Buccaneers ).

The rugby connection continues with Des Fitzgerald who was capped as a prop 34 times including at two Rugby World Cups for Ireland for whom his son Luke also played. Current Chief Executive at EBS, Des also played for the British and Irish Lions and has many sporting and business interests and accomplishments.

Anne-Marie Taylor’s background is in management consultancy and she is passionate about women advancing in business. She is on the board of the Public Appointments Service and the Irish Hospice Foundation.

An added feature of this event will be a recital by Llantrisant Choir from Wales who are visiting Athlone in conjunction with Ireland’s Six Nations match against the Red Dragons. This 25 man choir have previously visited the rugby club where their vast repertoire has gone down a treat.
