Women of Wit (WOW ), a live showcase of comedy, storytelling and the spoken word, will perform Backstage at the Snug Bar on Tuesday, October 29 and Wednesday, October 30, at 8pm.
The show has been a runaway success since its debut in Bewley’s Café Theatre, Dublin, in February of this year. Each edition features a carefully selected group of artists, musician, writers and comedians, some of whom are well known rising stars!
The emphasis is on fun and good cheer with the occasional serious bit and promises a night of great insight, great storytelling and, especially, great laughter.
Athlone will be one of its first adventures outside the capital, and the show’s producer and programmer, Yvonne O’Reilly, is particularly delighted about this asit is the town from which she hails.
For its Backstage edition, WOW will feature two of its most experienced and popular regulars, actor/playwright Noelle Brown and comic writer, performer and founder of the musical trio The Nualas, Anne Gildea.
Noelle Brown
Noelle has worked extensively as an actor in theatre, film, television and radio, and is also a playwright. Her first play, Postscript, co-written with Michèle Forbes, dealt with her experiences of tracing her birth family. She is also an adoption rights activist. Noelle will mostly be talking about the challenges of life as a redhead and other provocative topics.
Anne Gildea
Anne Gildea is a founder of the comedy trio The Nualas and now performs as part of @WomenofWit. She will be presenting some songs for a new show she is currently writing, among other things, a short reflection on the end of life of a Bad Dad.
