‘Promises Promises’ a must see play at Backstage at The Snug Bar

Promises, Promises’ premiered last week Backstage at The Snug Bar. Audiences could not hold back the laughter as local playwright, Margaret McKenna Mullan, brought her old cantankerous and cunning character ‘Rosaleen’ to life in a priceless performance.

The audiences were laughing all the way through this uproariously funny play. The cast were outstanding and audiences were laughing even before Paddy Broder delivered his first line as they fondly remembered him as Paddy the Painter from ‘Catch me if you Can’. Paddy plays Peadar, the egotistical bachelor farmer who only has eyes for two things, Rosaleen’s daughter Winifred and money.

Keesh North who plays Rosaleen’s daughter excellently portrays the loving daughter, who tries to look after her ageing mother who has gone man mad as an apparent side affect of her Alzheimer’s medication. But she is no match for Rosaleen as even the priest, played by Gerry North, can’t seem to settle this rather lively and flirtatious lady.

Seamus McKenna returned to the stage once again as Peadar’s slimy father, Micilin, who also has a wondering eye for the ladies and makes no apologies for his womanizing behavior. Seamus unfortunately had to step down from his role this week due to health reasons and will return to the stage as soon as he is back on his feet. We wish Seamus a very speedy recovery.

Declan Finn, another excellent actor from Ballinasloe has stepped into Seamus’s shoes as Micilin and plays the role superbly. Declan also acted in ‘All for the love of Mammy’ by Margaret Mckenna Mullan and is no stranger to the stage.

‘Promises Promises’ is a must see and will take place every Tuesday and Wednesday evening at 8pm for a limited run Backstage at The Snug Bar.

Tickets are €10 and can be purchased at The Snug Bar or reserved by calling 090 6490370. Booking in advance is essential. Backstage is a great night out and some groups make a night of it by coming in before the show to share a pizza and a glass of wine.
