A major refurbishment of the Athlone Government Offices which house the Revenue Commissioners on the town's west side, has been announced by Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran.
The €2.3m refurbishment will incorporate an extensive internal fit-out works on all floors of the building and a reconfiguration of existing office space to accommodate new staff. The project will also include the replacement of the existing windows and doors and will increase the thermal efficiency of the building.
Kilcawley Construction, who are at present progressing with refurbishment works at Athlone Garda Station have been contracted to proceed with the development project which will be co-funded by the Office of Public Works and Revenue Commissioners.
Announcing the news, Minister Moran stated that the proposed development is further welcome news for the town's west side.
"This development is a further boost for the west side of Athlone with work presently proceeding on the complete refurbishment of the Garda Station and a detailed regeneration plan of the area to take place as part of Project Ireland 2040.
"The proposed refurbishment of the Athlone Government Offices allays any concerns with regard to the closure of the building and the money allocated towards this developments copperfastens this belief," Minister Moran stated.
The Minister recently met with members of the local Chamber of Commerce pertaining to matters west side of Athlone.
"I had a very productive meeting recently with the Chamber of Commerce, the aim of which was to assess and progress development on the west side and working together with the local Council, I envisage a positive outlook for the area," the Minister commented.
It is envisaged that the Athlone Government Offices refurbishment works will commence in October, with a 24-week construction period.
